What makes a coach a Good Coach? (so you can check the next time we meet)

Supportive: A coach is one who supports your needs and aspirations and who can tune in to who you are. A coach encourages you to go a little further and challenges your thoughts and beliefs when they are stopping you from moving forward.

Patient: A coach allows you to take your time to think, to practise, to understand, to ask.

Respected: A coach is someone who is respect-worthy, through (life)experience, knowledge, personality and way of being.

People Oriented: A coach is one who is genuinely interested in people and has a desire to help others. She communicates effectively, listens actively and hears what is truly being said.. She also has to be able to give appropriate feedback.

Good Motivator: A coach is someone who inspires you to grow and develop. A coach needs to be able to motivate by encouraging positive or new behaviour and challenging poor or inappropriate behaviour.

An Achiever: A coach has usually achieved a level of accomplishment and/or has overcome obstacles in a personal or professional capacity. They like to learn, continuously evaluate themselves and where they are at, and strive to develop themselves in many areas.

Accepts Others: A coach is one who shows regard for another's well-being. Every person, including the coach, has certain vulnerabilities and imperfections. A coach accepts, is unjudgemental and provides strict confidentiality, creating a safe environment to discuss anything that arises in a session.
